Online K-3 Reading Program - Reading Kingdom - Review

Reading Kingdom Review

Reading kingdom is a an online reading program for K-3.

Here are some of the key benefits of The Reading Kingdom

Reading Kingdom is research based and is the only program that uses Dr. Marion Blank's patented Six Skill Integrated Method which uses innovative techniques to teach all the reading & writing skills in an integrated fashion. The result is that children become successful readers.

The Program is adaptive

Students can use the program at school and at home

Works with Win, Mac, iPad, Android, & Chromebooks

Teaches students to read & write with comprehension at a 3rd grade level in only 12-18 months

My 3rd grade son started this reading program. We were asked to do a review in exchange for access to the program. My son struggles with reading. Reading has not come easy for him at all. Although I have only been able to use this program for 2 weeks I feel it can really help students develop into good readers.

A little about the program

When you first start the program they have you take a placement test. They ask that parents not help the kids at all so that they can place them in the right level. I watched him but I didn't say or do anything. He understood and did well but his typing was really bad and slow. My son is not good at typing at all, he is really slow and just hasn't had a lot of practice. We used a MacBook Pro Laptop to do the reading program on. I think he would have placed higher if it wasn't for the typing part. However typing is an important skill to have especially right now. He got a little bored cause it was too easy for him (all expect the typing part). The skill was too easy. The good news is that you can move them up and they don't have to stay at the placement that they are placed in. I had my 1st grader try it as well at level 1 and she loved it.

Reading Kingdom is great to learn spelling!

Down below are examples of just a small part of level 1

Here are some examples of some of the slides. They have to click the letters that spell girls.

Then they have to choose which word says girls

Then they choose which of the pictures is of girls

They have prompts if the child needs help and Capps lock is accidentally turned on or they kid is having a hard time it will say watch and then help the student.

Then they have to type the word, spelling it correctly
Here they have to pick which helicopter is the one that can spell girls and then they type in the missing letters

.

They don't like the students doing more than 2 sessions a day. They recommend doing the program 4 days a week. If the child tries to go on and they already did 2 sessions then it will bring up a screen recommending what to do but you still have a choice to go on or not.
